Your doctor is an important partner

When you have atrial fibrillation (AFib) not caused by a heart valve problem, it's important for you and your doctor to work together to help reduce your risk of stroke. The time spent in the office may be limited. We've provided a few tips to help make sure you're asking the important questions so you and your doctor are each getting the information you need.

  • Think of questions to ask before your visit. Write them down so you don't forget them. Use the Doctor Discussion Guide for an easy way to help guide the conversation.
  • Listen closely to the doctor and jot down answers so you can reference them when you get home.
  • Find out all you can about your condition.
  • Know that your doctor is there to help. Ask questions and try not to feel rushed, even if there is a waiting room full of people.

The Doctor Discussion Guide is an important part of getting the most from your doctor's visit. Download it here and bring it with you on your next appointment.
